Chez Montagnes is a rural retreat in the foothills of the Pyrenees, a place to take a break away from it all. The villa has every modern luxury your heart desires yet the exposed stone walls and wooden ceiling beams remind you of its history and charm. It is located in the secluded hamlet of L’Escale, steeped in history, as the French Resistance operated here during World War 2. For the history buffs, a blog will be forthcoming!
The villa is set over 4 floors, lower ground or basement which is at true ground level, ground floor, first floor and the loft, you can find out more about our maison interiors below.

House Layout
The accommodation at Chez Montagnes is set over 4 levels:
Lower Ground
- Utility room with washer, dryer, sink, iron & ironing board.
- Small gym equipped with weights bench, yoga mats and an electric sauna fitted with a music system (open depending on time of year, please enquire).
- Step-free access from the front garden to bring bikes or skis in so they can be stored safely in the gym.
Ground Floor
- Kitchen, fully-equipped with 2 ovens, induction hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, filter tap, toaster, kettle and coffee maker. More glasses, utensils and cooking equipment you can shake a stick at. Spectacular views of mountains from breakfast nook.
- Split-level living room with exposed beams divided into 2 sections. A TV room with wood burning stove, leather suite, mini-library of holiday reads, with French doors accessing the courtyard on one side and the balcony and summer kitchen on the other. Step up to a large, bright lounge with a 3 seater couch and 2 arm chairs. Dual aspect views of the mountains to the east, south and west.
- Formal dining room with exposed beams and table seating 6.
- WC & Hall cupboard with 100s of DVDs.
First Floor
- Large master bedroom with European king size bed (slightly bigger than a UK king!), exposed beams and walk-in wardrobe. Spectacular views of the mountains to the south and west to capture beautiful light all day.
- Our guest bedroom is a luxurious space. Double bed, exposed beams, lime rendered walls, electric fire in a travertine marble fireplace and dual aspect views of the mountains to the south and east.
- Bedroom 3 is where the kids will feel at home! Triple bunk bed. Bed rail for bottom bunk and cot bed with bedding available upon request for no extra cost. Note: bunk beds are not suitable for adults.
- WC and a separate spacious family bathroom with spa rain shower, jacuzzi bath and double sink.
The Loft
- A very generous space with 2 single beds, TV and DVD player.
- Exposed stone walls, beams and a picture window with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
- Separate, dedicated workspace with desk, desk chair & velux window.
