Puivert Lake just 5 mins from Chez Montagnes, is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by stunning views on all sides, including Puivert Castle, look up and you might spot a glider flying overhead!

During high season (July & August), there’s a few dining options – the Buvette restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and hosts the odd concert. Another cafe and refreshments truck serve more casual food, drinks, icepops etc.

Every Wednesday night during high season, there’s a night market (marché gourmand) where you can experience France like a local. Always a great evening out, there’s an abundance of food stalls offering fresh vegetables, meat, poultry and cheese from the ‘terroir’, a craft beer truck and a variety of local wine. The live music, artisan craft sellers displaying their eclectic wares and the long bench tables (jump right in, don’t be shy!) provide a uniquely laid-back atmosphere. The moules-frites stall always has the longest queues, but there’s lots of options, it’s a real smorgasbord of high quality local produce.

Les Bains du Couloubret in Ax-les-Thermes. Entry to the Baths gives you access to various indoor and outdoor pools of hot thermal water, the hammam, the sauna, the vaporarium, frigidarium, and caldarium.

Montbel lake covers 570 hectares and is fed by the clear water of the Hers. With its forest surroundings, it is a good place to watch wildlife.

It’s a lovely place to unwind, the equipped beaches offer swimming, fishing, water-based recreational activities such as fishing, canoeing, kayaking, pedalo and sailing. Horse riding and 16kms of hiking or running trails are also available.

Parc St Bertrand in Quillan has something for all the family. Swimming and fishing lakes, watersports, playground, volleyball, football, skate park, allotment gardens, cycling routes, hiking and running trails, beautiful sunbeds carved out of rock, picnic tables and a restaurant.
