About the local area: Puivert

Chez Montages is located in the small village of Puivert in the Aude department of southern France, near the border with Ariège, around 55km south-west of Carcassonne.

The Aude region renowned for its natural, architectural and historical heritage. It is beautiful to visit in any season, benefiting from great weather, stunning scenery, historic sites and a range of activities all year round.

Puivert has the Station Verte ecotourism badge for its natural, architectural and historical heritage. It’s an ideal base from which to explore the entire picturesque region of the Pyrenean piedmont plateau.

The village itself is small but full of charm and has a great craft beer pub, a lively night market at the lake with live music and food trucks every Wednesday in high season and some say the best fireworks outside of Carcassonne on Bastille Day!

There are some wonderful hiking and cycling routes in the area including Le Chemin Vert, an old railway line which is now a path linking Mirepoix and Lavelanet, swimming and fishing lakes nearby.

As well as being a hotbed of outdoor pursuits, the region is steeped in history, from beautiful Cathar castles and villages, and rumours of the Holy Grail, to dinosaur discoveries and prehistoric cave drawings.

The balcony is a great place to have coffee in the morning. The kitchen had everything we needed & more. We barbecued a few nights in the outdoor kitchen and they had left charcoal for us which was a nice touch!
